I will be making my third trip to Nationwide Arena later this month. The first was the Ohio Hockey Classic (Miami beat the Falcons), the second was the Wings-Blue Jackets game on April 1st (on NBC).
This time it will be for the NHL Draft, June 22-23. I volunteered to work at the draft and have made the cut. I will be a “Draft guide” - no idea what I will be doing, but it is supposed to be the most important volunteer position. I am sure I will have a blast just being there. (Yes, I am taking a vacation day at work to work for free.)
It will be nice to be there if/when BG-bound Josh Unice gets drafted. He is ranked as the #15 North American goalie.
There is a full schedule of events for the fans. This FSN Ohio video is interesting - how they planned the draft, it’s impact on the city, making it exciting for fans.
Michael Turner has a guide for fans traveling to Columbus to attend the draft. Michael and Drew are organizing a blogger meet-up there - hope I can make that, too. Update: Sarah has a great list of things to do in Columbus draft weekend.
Nice to see a CCHA team win the Men’s Division I college hockey crown. I was rooting for Jerry York but I guess finishing 2nd two years in a row is not all that bad.
Our local paper printed the first version of the AP article on the game, which has this mistake:
Michigan State coach Mike Comley also won it all with Bowling Green in 1984.
It has been corrected online:
Comley also won it all with Northern Michigan in 1991.
At least the Falcons can say they were one of the last teams to beat the Spartans (to end the regular season).
My Zamboni ride at Nationwide Arena was really fun. I got to do it for the whole ice arena. I waved a lot and other people waved to me.

Me on the Zamboni before we were on the ice.

That is me up on the big scoreboard.

This is me on the Zamboni when we are on the ice.
Thank you to the Goodmurphy family for letting us use their camera for these pictures - and for telling us about the chance to ride the zamboni.
We went to the Falcons game against Miami at Nationwide Arena on Friday - part of the Ohio Hockey Classic. The Falcons did not win, but I thought they played as well as the Redhawks (just a few lucky bounces away from upsetting them).
Nationwide is a great arena - it was our first visit to the home of the Blue Jackets. The highlight was Blaine riding on the zamboni during the second intermission.

Here is Blaine just before the zamboni heads out onto the ice. We forgot our digital camera, so this is a phone photo. We will have better photos from a borrowed camera later.
Today is Christmas. Here are some photos from this morning.

Just before we opened the presents.

Still waiting to open presents (have to take some pictures first)

Caitie’s 3 favorite presents: Pajamas, Nintendo DS, Nintendog game (Lucy is a brown chocolate lab)

Rachel’s favorite present: Elizabeth American Girl doll (pink dress)

Blaine’s favorite presents: Power rangers, Fly-face, Troublesome trucks

Time to open the stockings

Grandma Instone helped us make gingerbread houses. We used candy for everything and frosting to stick everything on!

Mon helped me build this gingerbread house. Grandma I. brought some supplies to use to decorate it.

I decorated this house for 2 hours straight.
